Short seminars are often a way to attempt to upskill people in the workplace. But most effective learning takes place over a period of time. So the best that can be hoped for in a short seminar (half day, full day, multiple days) is to gain some information which can be implemented back in the workplace. However, for learning to be effective, there has to be an opportunity to practise, reflect and change present habitual actions (especially if the outward incorrect results are the same). But if the thinking of the participant does not change in the seminar, they will return with more information, but the same habitual incorrect action. This probably results in frustration by the employer who has spent money, but saw no commensurate result.
KVConsulting seeks to present seminars which challenge the thinking of participants, not just add more information. Most managers know how to manage people (they are aware of what they appreciate or don't). What they require is a way to put into practice what they know and not revert to incorrect default settings.
A key part of the seminar presentations is building upon what people already know, getting them to realise their default setting and allowing them to come to a realisation of how their actions impact on the people they interact with. This provides an opportunity for change to occur.
"you cannot solve a problem with the same thinking which created it"
How to set up / attend a seminar: Seminars are normally run as in-house (where a few staff from the same company attend), but there are opportunities to run general / public ones when there is a request from a few individual small companies. If enough employers are interested, a seminar will be set up in that location. So far seminars have been set up in Napier, Palmerston North, Dunedin, Nelson, New Plymouth, Auckland and Feilding. Any location will be considered. Please contact Keith Vaughan to discuss (see CONTACT page)
